The piano recital was very successful and well attended. The children performed well – I am so proud of everyone of them. It was my 34th piano recital. I still get nervous, but I think I am better equipped to help the kids through their own nervousness as a result. Here are a couple of performances for you to enjoy.
Summer Art Classes
I love to share art projects with kids. They are so eager to create, and so proud of what they’ve made.
REDUCTION PRINTING
Reduction printing is a process of printing that requires layers of printing with each layer having had the surface area of the printing plate reduced. This project required 3 layers. Each child made multiple prints and was able to share with their classmates when they were finished.
ABSTRACT COLOR THEORY
A little color theory was the basis of this project. Each student created an abstract by printing circles of india ink with a paper cup. Then came the color theory. A color wheel was made with primaries, and then mixing secondaries, We discussed the different color combinations – analogous, monochromatic and complementary, and learned about the strengths of each. Then the students colored their abstracts using each of those color combinations.
OIL PASTEL RESIST
This project required a bit of backward thinking. But using the analogy of a stained glass window helped the students to be successful. The design was put down on paper and then colored with oil pastels. The tricky part was that the lines of the design had to be left uncolored. That was the backwards thinking. Then the entire picture was covered with india ink. The ink soaked into the uncolored areas and became black. It resisted the colored areas and when rinsed, it washed off leaving a “block print” looking type of art.
Paint Pouring
Paint pouring is a hit and a success with kids every time! It’s a great project because it requires very little artistic skill, yet the outcome is very creative looking. And every pour is beautiful. There are no fails! Check out YouTube to find endless how-to videos on different types of paint pouring projects.
